Kathryn and Oliver easily won over our hearts when they first came to Keswick Vineyards. Their love had such a presence that it was hard not to be overwhelmed with joy just as they were together. Their friends and family felt much the same as they came together to celebrate just that…the love.
Love, as is true with all weddings, is one of the many reasons a marriage takes place. With this family in particular, a resounding theme for them was “what’s love got to do with it?” (In the famous words of Tina Turner). The answer? Everything.
Kathryn and Oliver had been together for the better part of a decade (so we found out). When you’re with someone for such a substantial portion of your life, your lives then intertwine. Friend groups are meshed and families are joined. It’s a beautiful thing. Both were very evident on September 17th as we celebrated the love of Kathryn and Oliver.
To make their wedding day just as special as their relationship, it was really important to Kathryn and Oliver to incorporate personal touches into their wedding. They wanted for some of the key people in their lives who have benefitted their relationship to be included. The bride’s mother, for example, sang an opera song to the couple and their guests during their ceremony. The groom’s mother handmade their champagne cork escort cards. The bride’s sister and her friend sang a beautiful a cappella song to them during their cake cutting. It was these moments combined that truly made their wedding unique and special, not just to them but also to everyone who was there to witness.
One of the many elements we all fell in love with was their owl ice sculpture. The couple loved owls! They had a wedding owl ice sculpture made to be displayed next to their reception bar which read “Owl Drink to That”. What a hoot!
Best of luck, laughter, and love as you continue forward as husband and wife.

It was one of those days where everything seemed to seamlessly fall into place. It was one of those days where everything just seemed to be going right (though that’s common for a Keswick Vineyards wedding). When you have the right combination of family, friends, vendors, and venue very little is bound to go wrong!
Our wonderful team of vendors, Keswick Vineyard’s stunning wedding venue, and Meghan and Paul’s friends were amazing on their own. What may have been even more impressive was how large their family was. The groom had a lot of siblings. He was one of ELEVEN. Yes, eleven. Cindy was able to take a photo that really captured just how many siblings eleven is. You’d think they were a wedding party on their own! This past weekend, with Meghan as their newest addition, their family grew even larger.
With that big of a family, you know there were even more guests. Someone had to keep them well fed and entertained! HotCakes catering brought all of the couples favorite comfort foods, including their (now) famous fried chicken and T.D. Layman with Sound Enforcement DJ Service kept the night alive with the latest hits. He’s always a crowd pleaser and his dance floor is ALWAYS full!
Under the expert eyes and hands of Barb Wired, Meghan and Paul could relax and enjoy all the wonderful elements they added to make their wedding super special. Some of those items were lawn games like corn hole, jumbo jenga and Spikeball, a cozy outdoor living room where guests could enjoy looking at old photo albums, a dessert bar to include three different types of pies, wedding cake and Duck Donuts. They took no short cuts and it truly paid off.
In typical Keswick Vineyards fashion, as guests danced off their full bellies we snuck our couple out to catch photos in front of yet another glorious sunset. It’s something we will never get tired of seeing. In fact, this one in particular was so good, we had to take an extended photo session and bring them down by the pond! After all, it is one of our iconic spots. We couldn’t resist!

The ceremony site typically used for our fall location was brought to life this weekend for Wade and Sarah’s wedding. They chose to modify our usual spot and make it their own with a view that was more angled towards the vineyard so that they could enjoy more of our sweeping mountain views. Though temperatures during the day were a bit steamy, the clouds came just in time and provided a great shade for their ceremony. Not to mention overcast skies are a photographers dream!
The bridesmaids were dressed in gorgeous, flowy plum gowns and the guys all looked very dapper in their tuxedos. The luxurious feel of it all was carried throughout the details of their wedding and we loved it! The bride’s mother and her best friend helped to make sure that the couples wedding day was perfect and just the way they envisioned it. One of the details that was important to them were the chairs. They wanted to personalize and distinguish their wedding party’s chairs for reception time. To do so, they wrapped each of their chiavari chairs in bronze satin bows. It looked beautiful! Similarly, for Wade and Sarah’s sweetheart table they jazzed up their chairs in white tulle. It brought them the perfect amount of elegance!
The night was off to a great start and after the ceremony and cocktail hour guests enjoyed a beautifully plated dinner by Roadside Chive. We love when Roadside Chive comes to cater! Not only because they do a great job and make our lives easy, but also because they treat the vendors to a special vineyard view dinner while guests are dining underneath of the Sperry tent. It’s nice to be spoiled a bit and, of course, to eat with such an amazing team of wedding professionals. Something we could definitely get use to!

Dannie and Evan completed our Labor Day weekend with a bang! With the couple being from Charleston, South Carolina, we were very interested in why they chose to be married at Keswick Vineyards versus Charleston since Charleston is ranked as the #1 East coast destination wedding location. Their response was simple: Upon looking at countless other venues and searching up and down the east coast, when they came to Keswick Vineyards they could feel it. The beautiful grounds, the sparkling fountain, and the lush mountain views all combined with much, much more made them immediately sold to have their wedding set to be held at the gorgeous Keswick Vineyards.
Dannie and Evan had one of the largest wedding parties we have ever seen. That says a lot considering the volume we experience during our wedding seasons! Have you ever heard of having SEVEN ring bearers and flower girls? Neither had we. But with a family as large as theirs it only made sense. Kids aside, their wedding party was also impressively large. It was clear this couple was very loved and surrounded with many of their favorite family members and friends.
Raspberry, navy, and gold were the couples chosen colors. The bright color pallet really popped underneath of our Sperry tent and they were perfect for the beautiful September weather we experienced over the weekend. Southern Inn Catering kept the crowd well fed with creative appetizers and their usual always mouth watering dinner. Nathan, also known as DJ Fit, ran the show as a first time DJ here at Keswick Vineyards and we can't wait to have him back for more! The evening was flawless and it was apparent to all who witnessed it that day. Not only was everyone elated by the marriage of Dannie and Evan, but also by the company that was there, and the scenery in which they all were surrounded by.
Another great Keswick Vineyards wedding down!

Bella and Ryan are our latest Keswick Vineyards couple and they kick started our Labor Day Weekend weddings! After spending the afternoon binge watching Harry Potter in the man cave, tears of joy flowed for these two when they exchanged their vows. Guests were commenting that they’ve never seen Ryan so happy and I believe it; he never stopped smiling!
They each wrote personal vows that were read aloud during their ceremony. The love was so apparent and it was felt and shared by everyone who was there to witness it. After they said their “I do’s” the music was cued and Terra Voce played their exiting music which then sent guests off to cocktail hour to enjoy delicious appetizers from Harvest Moon and perfectly paired Keswick Vineyards wine. They even served one of my fall favorites, grilled cheese and tomato soup shooters! A classic that will never get old.
Once guests entered underneath of the reception tent, they were immediately awed by the bright colors of coral and yellow that the couple chose. Their flowers beautifully accented these both and were showcased lovely in their centerpieces. Dinner and dancing followed and the party then took off! At the end of the night the couple was sent away to their getaway car where they said goodbye to their friends and family before they left for their honeymoon in Bora Bora!
Best of luck to you both and congratulations again Bella and Ryan!

Tara and Andy are our newest Keswick Vineyards couple. They were married here last Saturday, August 27th, 2016 and finished our August weddings strong!
Tara and Andy have personalities that are contagious. There are some people you meet in life and immediately it just works. Similarly, there are venues in Charlottesville that you see and you just know it’s the one. The same was true in both cases for Tara and Andy. We immediately clicked and they immediately fell far in love with Keswick Vineyards. After completing their tour almost a year ago to date, they took the short 2 hour drive back home to DC, picked up the phone and gave us a ring. They knew our dates went fast so they didn’t want to miss the chance of locking down their perfect one!
With the combination of the perfect venue and the perfect vendors Tara and Andy’s wedding was off to a killer start! They hired Keswick Vineyards to be their day of coordinators, so throughout the planning process we were here to offer helpful planning advice and glue together those loose ends couples often find challenging with their busy work schedules. Because they hired us as their day of coordinator, they experienced some advantages that became very helpful to them on wedding day.
It’s no secret that with a wedding comes a bit of stress. However, with a wedding at Keswick Vineyards, comes less stress, and less worry. They were in good hands. In the excitement of the day, a tie was forgotten. Finding this information out very close to picture taking time, Keswick’s team quickly went to trouble shoot, ran inside to the owners house (since Keswick Vineyards is a private residence) and borrowed a tie from the owner, Al. So….what have we learned from this? Al isn’t only useful for his fountain duty, but for his wardrobe too!
After that mini crisis was adverted, we were back on track and smooth sailing. Dinner was served by The Catering Outfit in family style fashion. The couple, having many children in their family, wanted to make sure that they too enjoyed their wedding day as much as they would. They decided to get creative and set up a smaller version of kids tables underneath of the Sperry tent. Clever! They were the perfect size for their tiny guests and even came with tiny chairs and gift bags with activities for the kids to keep occupied throughout the evening. This is one idea I’ll certainly be sharing with our future couples!

Congratulations to Tyler and Julie, our newest Keswick Vineyards married couple! They celebrated with us here on Saturday, August 13th and their wedding was truly one for the books!
All of their details were very well thought out and beautifully executed. Everything from their handmade chalkboard signs to the angle of the Rosemary sprigs individually placed at each place setting made their wedding a very memorable one. In particular, their chalkboard signs were my favorite. They were handmade by a friend of the bride, who also happened to be one of her bridesmaids. Everyone was in awe of her talent and complimented her work endlessly. What an incredible gift! They helped indicate what was happening and when so that guests knew what to expect and knew they didn't have to think about anything but soaking in the scenery and enjoying the delicious wine.
As if the scenery and the wine weren't enough, Julie and Tyler made sure their guests also were able to capture and save memories of their wedding with their photo booth! It was a huge hit all night. Guests gathered in the gazebo and picked from an assortment of home made props and snapped photos of themselves with friends and (of course) with the bride and groom! We'll check this one off as another picture perfect Keswick Vineyards wedding!

Keswick Vineyards hosted the marriage of Susan & Steve on Thursday, August 4th. This wedding was extra special for Al & I. We have been friends with Steve for many, many years sharing some wonderful memories together. Through those years we were able to see Steve enjoy his bachelor lifestyle. I guess we never thought Steve would ever get married again until he brought Susan over to meet us some 2 years ago. Right away both Al & I saw something different with Susan. Could she be the one? You could instantly see a connection with these two. Our gut was telling us that Susan was the one. And we were right!
During the past two years of us getting to know Susan we always had an on going conversation of Al’s fountain duty he has for all our weddings. It was always a topic of conversation because they usually came for a visit on Saturday’s and Al would always say how he had to get back to do fountain duty. With the “fountain” being such a focal point for all of us it was a natural choice for the location Steve would propose to Susan last year. With me hiding to capture the moment on film, Steve dropt to his knee to ask for her hand in marriage. When she said yes, Al triggered the fountain to go on and they finally got to experience what they had heard for a year themselves.
Al & I were flattered when they told us that they wanted to get married at Keswick Vineyards. Of course, they would choose the fountain as their location for their ceremony. Susan knew they wanted a really relaxed and casual style to their wedding day to match their personalities. She envisioned guests seated out in the lawn area for the cocktail/reception time versus under our Sperry tent. Steve envisioned a bourbon & cigar bar and they both agreed that having a food truck was the perfect choice to pull off their casual/partying theme. I was a little concerned about doing the entire wedding outside of the tent in August since it is normally hot and people would want to be under a tent for shade and fans but I kept an open mind. Who would have known that they had chosen the most perfect day you could have possibly had? Perhaps burying the bourbon bottle a month earlier had something to do with it?
Their day started with the guys relaxing in the “man’s cave” playing pool while the girls got their hair and make-up done at Moxie Hair Salon. The ceremony was to be intimate with only the immediate family attending. Susan was walked down the aisle by her two sons while her daughter was a junior bridesmaid. Steve had his son and father as his best men. Look closely at the photos and you will see our winemaker, Stephen, as their officiant. As Stephen made reference to remembering Steve’s Mother who died earlier this year from a courageous battle against cancer, a butterfly swooped down as to make her presence known. When Stephen announced that Steve could now kiss his wife, Al with his exact timing had the fountain come on.
After the ceremony the rest of the guests arrived. They enjoyed drinks & appetizers while mingling and headed over to the Bavarian Chef food truck to get more delicious food when needed. After a couple of hours everyone went under the tent for speeches and dancing! Finally, the moment most of the guests were waiting for happened. The bourbon & cigar bars opened! I’ve never seen so many happy faces. It was like children in a candy store. Ron Barker provided the cigars and was on hand to help the guests pick the perfect cigar for them. As you can see by my photo everyone really enjoyed hanging outside the tent enjoying themselves all night long.
Special thanks to everyone who helped Susan & Steve have the wedding of their dreams: Catering by Bavarian Chef Food Truck, Event Planner Cindy Schornberg, Photographer Cindy Schornberg, Officiant Stephen Barnard, Florist Verde Natural Florist, Cupcakes by Pearls Cupcake Shoppe, Cigars by Ron Barker with CigarVolante, DJ Kevin Graham, Buses by UVA Transit, Hair & Make-up by Moxie Hair Salon, Rentals from MS Events, and of course, fountain duty by Al Schornberg!
We were lucky to end our stretch of July vineyard weddings with Shannon and Nathan on Saturday, the 30th. They chose Keswick Vineyards to be their wedding venue for its incredible views and they were so excited for their friends and families to see and fall in love with them just as they had.
The day was gorgeous! We had the perfect amount of sunlight and clouds to make for beautiful photo backdrops for Shannon and Nathan. While the girls were being pampered with hair and makeup in the bridal suite and the guys relaxing with good music and games of pool in the man’s cave, Keswick Vineyards team looked across the mountain to see a baby storm approaching. Our first thoughts? Check radar! When we did, we realized that it would be a short summer storm that would blow over quickly and drop the summer temperatures to a more comfortable degree. Great!
With quick thinking and swift planning on Keswick’s end we decided to switch things up for their wedding. Not knowing when the storm would come and go, and knowing we were approaching ceremony time, we decided to start things off in reverse order. We welcomed guests into cocktail hour first and kept them happy with music, great Keswick Vineyards virginia wine, and (of course) food!
The couple had HotCakes as their wedding caterer who had quite the spread for guests to enjoy. They loved the variety they were offered and it served as a great “distraction” while we waited for this summer storm to pass. Sure enough, it did just in the nick of time! Cocktail hour was wrapping up, catering and Keswick Vineyards quickly set up for ceremony out front of the main estate looking towards the fountain, vineyard, and mountains. We had an outdoor ceremony!
Shannon and Nathan were absolutely thrilled and even commented on how them and their guests loved being able to mingle and chat with drinks and appetizers before the ceremony. “Everyone was so happy,” said Nathan.
Ceremony completed and guests then gathered underneath of our beautiful, sailcloth Sperry Tent for reception where they enjoyed a delicious and intimate dinner followed by dancing the night away with DJ Frank Smith.

Congratulations to Helen and Ali who had their vineyard wedding here at Keswick Vineyards on Sunday, July 24th. The couple came a long way away (all the way from cold, cold Boston) to celebrate with their family and friends here on a hot, hot July afternoon!
Despite the rising temperatures, guests stayed cool underneath of the shade of Keswick's many trees. Before ceremony they enjoyed the scenic sweeping mountain and vineyard views in front of the historic estate and mingled until it was time for the ceremony to start. Helen was the bell of the ball! The dress she wore took everyone by surprise. A long sleeve dress in July? Yes! The dress held a great deal of sentiment to her and her family. It was designed and handmade by her great, great grandmother over 100 years ago. It fit her like a glove and was a great tribute to honor past generations of her family and the traditions she'd bring into her new life with Ali.
Helen and Ali snuck away for photos after their ceremony as their guests were sent to cocktail hour to listen to the music of a blue grass ensemble. They were quite the hit! After the magic hour of photo taking, the couple joined their guests underneath of Keswick Vineyard's Sperry tent, which kept them significantly cooler with the breeze from our eight fans!
DJ Ricky kept the party alive throughout the evening once guests filled their bellies with Charlottesville's local wedding cater, C&O's delicious eats. A quick outfit change by Helen and a few streamers and cans tied to the back of their "Just Married" getaway car, and this couple was ready for their much anticipated sparkler send off! Away in the night they went as they continued to celebrate their life as the new Mr. and Mrs. wrapping up their memorable evening at one of Charlottesville's most picturesque vineyard wedding venues!
