2014 Chardonnay Reserve
Crisp gold in color with honeysuckle and citrus aromas that rival the previous vintages, this Estate Reserve Chardonnay is a hallmark of the 2014 vintage with bright acids and intense structure. The oak is seamlessly integrated with the fruit resulting in a fresh and crisp palate without sacrificing the layers of fruit and structure for which our Chardonnay wines are known. It is both drinkable and age worthy with the potential to mature over the next 6-8 years at least. After aeration more sappy yellow fruits come to the forefront with touches of baked bread on the back palate.
The gold ribbon Estate Reserve label is an endorsement on the part of Keswick Vineyards as to what we believe is the best expression of a varietal that we could possible make. They are always naturally fermented and un-manipulated reflecting the character of the vineyard versus the winemaker. In terms of ageing, our reserves are designed to age and improve with time, generally requiring several years for them to reach their true potential.
The fruit was lightly pressed and the free run juice was transferred to tank while the heavy press juice was separated. The Chardonnay juice settled naturally for 48 hours and was then racked off the solids to tank for fermentation. After 4 weeks the wine was transferred to 100% French Oak barrels, where fermentation was completed in early April. The wine was aged on lees for 10 months prior to bottling, with regular stirring of the barrels to develop palate weight and richness. 40% of the wine was aged in 500L Sansuad barrels while the remainder of the wine was matured in 228L Côte d'Or barrels, all barrels were three years of age.
The wine was bottled on the 6th of August, 2015 to a total of 357 cases.
