2015 Chardonnay Reserve
Baked apple pie on the nose with subtle hints of vanilla and spice. With aeration, more yellow fruit tones start showing themselves. On the palate the 2015 Chardonnay Estate Reserve is very rich and unctuous, with a heavy feel and long finish. There is enough acidity in the wine to keep the flavors focused and pure. Some stone fruit character on the front end, but this wine is remarkably weighty and creamy. Yellow fruits with hints of smoke and spice imparted from the barrel along with some caramel tones as aeration continues.
The gold ribbon Estate Reserve label is an endorsement on the part of Keswick Vineyards as to what we believe is the best expression of a varietal that we could possible make. They are always naturally fermented and un-manipulated reflecting the character of the vineyard versus the winemaker. In terms of ageing, our reserves are designed to age and improve with time, generally requiring several years for them to reach their true potential
Fruit was machine harvested on September 1st 2015. Pressing was done manually with the juice being run directly into 3rd and 4th fill French oak barrels. Fermentation occured with the addition of a hybrid South African yesast, selected for its ability to produce wines with bigger mouthfeel and elegance. Fermentation completed in 2 weeks and secondary fermentation was prevented. Wine was stirred once a week for the remainder of it's aging on gross lees.
