2015 Les Vents d'Anges Viognier
One of our favorite wines, due largely in part to the fact that it is a tribute to Genevieve, the youngest sister to our owner Al Schornberg. It also is a hard wine to make since she was the kindest, most big hearted and beautiful person [inside and out] and the wine has to reflect that. We hope the 2015 vintage does it justice for it is sweet in flavor; with sappy ripe tropical fruits coating your mouth and just enough acidity to have the wine feel light and focused. Even though it is tank fermented and matured, the wine has depth and complexity, it is rich and unctuous and the finish just sails on. This is just a pretty wine, made from our estate-grown Viognier grapes, honoring the memory of someone very special to this family.
Les Vents d'Anges, "the wind of angels" is a tribute to Genevieve de Beaubien, M.D., the beloved sister of Al Schornberg, owner of Keswick Vineyards. Pronounced the same as vendanges or "harvest", the wines bottled under this label are typically fruit forward and delicate, sometimes with a hint of sweetness.
The fruit was harvested and sourced from the two blocks in front of Edgewood Estate grown on the clay soils. The fruit was immediately transferred to press upon arrival to the cellar. The free run and light press juice went to our viognier program and juice extracted from the heavy pressing went to our LVD program. The juice was treated slightly differently in that it was immediately fined to remove the heavy press phenolics and bitterness, after which it was racked off the gross solids. The juice was then inoculated with yeast, with primary fermentation finishing in 21 days. The wine was immediately sulfured to prevent the onset of secondary fermentation, and racked off the gross solids. The wine aged for 6 months on the gross lees with the tank stirred every 2 weeks. Prior to bottling the wine was both protein and cold stabilized, and sterile filtered. The wine was bottled March 11th.
