Consensus is an annual red wine blend crafted exclusively by the Keswick Vineyards Wine Club. Each year Keswick Vineyards plays host to a competition that sees several hundred contestors forming small teams and competing for the best red wine blend. This annual tradition has been a part of the Keswick Vineyards Wine Club since 2006.
Congratulations to Doug Bainas, Melissa Smith, Mike Summerlin, Denise Summerlin, Joni See and Eddie Kirby! Their winning blend is
40% Cabernet Franc
Dark red with crimson tones on the appearance of the wine, with 100% clarity due to the filtration. The nose displays an abundance of red and dark fruits with hints of spice, black pepper and earthier notes due to the base of the wine being Cabernet Franc. The tannins are fine and supple, the palate being medium bodied, balanced with a good core of acidity. The flavors are a bit more generous in fruit, with dominant notes of cherry, currants and plum with a hint of smokiness on the finish. Approachable style but has enough tannin and structure to warrant short to medium term storage for added complexity.
Grapes were harvested on varying dates, combination of hand and machine harvested fruit. All estate grown and at optimal ripeness. 2017 was a wonderful growing season all around.
Wines were fermented independently and completed primary fermentation in 1 to 3 weeks. All tanks were pumped over and punched down, with care in not over extracting the fruit. All secondary fermentations were completed in April or May of 2018, depending on the varietal. The final blend was assembled after the completion of the Consensus blending event and filtered June 8th prior to bottling June 20th.
