Tasting Tuesday's 4-Pack
2017 Signature Series Cabernet Franc:
Visually the wine is opaque, uniformly dark with crimson tones. The nose is vibrant, vivid and complex with initial aromas of spice, cardamom, pepper, violets, dried herbs and blue fruits. With aeration and warmth, you get fruit that lean towards more the red spectrum, currants, raspberries and pomegranate. The palate shows a lot of restraint and elegance. The tannins are soft, supple and coating with a core of acidity running through the entire wine. The oak is well balanced and there is perhaps a hint of charred wood, pencil lead and black tea. The flavors are very savory, and the finish is long and lengthy.
This wine is not built on brute power and extraction. It shows finesse, silkiness and elegance which lends itself to being cellared for 6-10 years quite easily under the right conditions.
2018 Estate Reserve Rosé:
The wine is 100% clear with no flocculation. The color is salmon or almost coral like. The nose is dominated by red fruits such as red currant, strawberry and raspberry, but there is also some vanilla and coconut that is derived from the ageing in oak. That palate is bright with good acidity, but the wine is plenty of structure and weight without being too cloying or heavy. The flavors are again in the red spectrum but there is some citrus or mineral aspects on the mid to back palate.
The color of the wine is extremely light, 100% clear and shows no flocculation or hints of dissolved gas. The nose is extremely vibrant and amplified, with aromas of green apple, citrus fruit, meyer lemon, wet stone and tangerine. The palate showcases the elevated acidity in the wine, followed by flavors of apple, green pear, lemon and with warmth and aeration, some yellow fruit. There is great tension in the wine, very focused and clean, the finish is crisp and leaves you wanting more. This is the perfect wine for those summer days.
